Dr. Newbrough is a great artist, amazing teacher and an extraordinary person.
As an artist and teacher, each of his lesson is inspirational and eye-opening. He intuitively and rationally approaches music. Each change he suggests has a logical reason and the suggestion brings music to an artistic level. Dr. Newbrough expects his students to play like an artist and find their own styles. Regardless of his high expectations, after each of his lesson, I would feel like I can play like an artist because he offers what students need to achieve the goal. Dr. Newbrough has emphasized that good techniques are tools to realize the sound in pianist’s mind. He helps students to do that as he is great at explaining musicality and technique in words. Students do not have to worry about “what if I cannot work hard on the piano” because studying with Dr. Newbrough naturally makes students work hard with great inspiration and joy of music making.
 
Watching his concerts is an experience beyond words. Hearing Dr. Newbrough’s sincere and convincing music in concerts was a breath-taking experience for me. When he demonstrates piano playing in lessons, that is another inspiring experience for students.
 
Also, I truly respect Dr. Newbrough not only as an artist, but as a person. He is very humble and caring. No matter what compliments he gets and no matter how great he plays the music, he always says, “thanks for God” and he plays music for God’s glory. He cares about students and treats others with a warm and gentle heart. Studying with Dr. Newbough is a learning to become a better pianist and a better person.
